I have toyed with the idea of putting out a comp sometime and I just can’t seem to make up my mind. There are all kinds of reasons that make sense to put one out, but then again, who really listens to the things? Then there is the whole, do we do it with ONLY Riotous Records bands or do we do it with anyone who is accepted? I have also thought about doing one of just music from the state of Kentucky since we are not only based here in the middle of the state, but also because you never hear much about bands from Kentucky, but there are TONS of them! I know if I were to put one together, I would do everything in my power to make sure that there are more changes in quality and style of music as possible. I hate comps full of the same kinds of music for 50 minutes, but by all different bands that when mashed together onto one album all sound the same. Plus, there is no real way for a band on a comp to make anything, usually bands actually PAY to be on a comp. The loss of money is great, but the exposure for all the bands who otherwise may not ever be heard by someone who bought it for a few bands on it they like is priceless. So now my personl problem with putting out a comp can also be yours. Should we do it, or should we just leave it alone? Would you buy it if we put it out?
